Ashley N Very tight/excellent show. Very British. Loved the cinematography, too, and how they blended "real life" scenes with "acted" scenes so it captured Nolly's likely experience of her own life being so tightly linked/blended with her performance persona. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Michael F I thoroughly enjoyed this show. It was far better than I was expecting. I didn't really know much about Noele Gordon, but there was far more to her than I knew about. Helena Bonham-Carter is excellent as Noele/Nolly, as is Augustus Prew as her friend Tony Adams (Adam Chance on 'Crossroads'). It's a really touching, nuanced show, that made me both laugh and cry. Good writing, good acting - and often a camp treat. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Nick L Fantastic! I loved this show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review John J The usual camp, glitzy nonsense from the awful Russell T. Davies (to say I have never been a fan would be a gross understatement) and an unsuccessful performance by the brown-eyed Helena Bonham Carter. I understand she went to a lot of trouble preparing for the role but she was the wrong actress to play the indomitable Noele Gordon and her well-meaning efforts were wasted. Despite knowing that RTD was the creator of Nolly, I sat down to watch it with an open mind, hoping against hope that he had finally produced something I would like. Sadly, he hadn't. This production may have worked better as a musical, especially that dreadful scene on the bus; at that point I was expecting everybody to suddenly burst into song. A dire disappointment. It was, I believe, the inspiration for Victoria Wood's brilliant pastiche "Acorn Antiques", which brilliantly captured the awfulness of the original. I remember the drama at the time, and many were glad to see the back of sanctimonious Meg Richardson from the show. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Brian Lowry CNN.com “Nolly” reflects the 1970s and ‘80s but also dabbles in universal and enduring insights about showbiz, ageism and not-so-subtle misogyny, almost like a spin on “Sunset Boulevard” for the TV era. Mar 19, 2024 Full Review Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe It’s a warm, smart, and concise portrait of British actress Noele Gordon, known as Nolly, who, in 1981, was abruptly fired from her TV soap opera, “Crossroads,” after 17 years. Mar 18, 2024 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune It is so well written, so well cast and executed, it finds a way to thrillingly reanimate a slice of British pop culture history from the analog era. Mar 13, 2024 Full Review Alberto Carlos Espinof Nolly is a clear contender to be one of the best miniseries of the year. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Nov 10, 2023 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) This is a celebration, not a wake. Ultimately we see Nolly not simply as a victim of men but of the changing television culture. Feb 10, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
