Eccentric LAPD detective Michael Raines has what some would call a unique ability -- he's able to have detailed conversations with deceased crime victims. With their help, Raines is able to retrace their lives leading up to the murder, in hopes of finding the culprit. Naturally, this causes a bit of friction with his boss, Capt. Daniel Lewis, as well as with fellow officers Remy Boyer, Michelle Lance and civilian employee Carolyn. Raines is fortunately aided by ex-LAPD partner and full-time conscience Charlie. All the while, Raines struggles to accept his gift (or burden), as it forces him to examine his past.

Hal Boedeker Orlando Sentinel Raines is an average, unoriginal series. Sep 24, 2019 Full Review Paul Brownfield Los Angeles Times I'd have preferred to watch Goldblum in an over-the-top noir projection than a projection of what networks know might actually last. Sep 24, 2019 Full Review Emily St. James Slant Magazine Raines just can't quite bring itself to get dark enough. It tries too hard to be about how the central detective establishes a relationship with the victim or with his co-workers, and it relies too much on Goldblum's hammy joke delivery. Sep 24, 2019 Full Review Ed Bark Uncle Barky [Jeff] Goldblum is in almost every scene, and has lots of dialogue, too. Often it's delivered in a beaten-down, low-decibel monotone, making the character both hard to hear and bear. Rated: C Sep 24, 2019 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette As close-ended procedurals go, "Raines" certainly offers an intriguing hook, but I'm not sure it's one with much staying power. Sep 24, 2019 Full Review Sierra Filucci Common Sense Media Though the series' premise has the potential for Ghost Whisperer-type cheesiness, it's classed up by [Jeff] Goldblum's quirky persona and tight writing.
