      Critics Consensus

Reboot hardly reinvents the Hollywood satire with its meta jokes that could have used more bite, but its more conventional qualities -- namely a delightful cast -- make for a mirthful enough watch.

John C This has to be one of the worst shows I've seen in years. I could barely force myself to get through the pilot. The color grading made it a strain to see anything. The writing was self important and not nearly as clever as it thought it was. The acting was abysmal. The only enjoyable part was when it finally ended. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Lucas H Buenísima, muy graciosa, con personajes super agradables. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review Carl J Is Nostalgia Enough? One of the highlights of Reboot is its talented ensemble cast, led by the dynamic performances of Keegan-Michael Key and Johnny Knoxville. The chemistry between the characters and their interactions add a sense of authenticity to the story, allowing viewers to connect with their struggles and triumphs. The premise of revisiting a classic sitcom and the challenges faced by the characters in adapting to a drastically different media landscape is intriguing. However, the execution falls short in some aspects. While the show tries to strike a balance between comedy and drama, it occasionally feels disjointed, and certain plotlines lack depth. Another issue is the limited episode count, with only eight episodes in the first and, unfortunately, only season. This constraint doesn't allow for enough exploration of character arcs and storylines, leaving some aspects rushed and unresolved. Additionally, despite the positive critical reception and awards nominations, the decision to cancel the series after just one season felt abrupt and left many fans disappointed. The pacing of Reboot is generally steady, and there are genuinely funny moments that pay homage to the original sitcom era. Nevertheless, the show lacks consistent humor and fails to deliver on its full potential. In conclusion, Reboot (TV Series 2022) offers an engaging concept with a talented cast, but it struggles to maintain a cohesive balance between comedy and drama. While it delivers on nostalgic elements for fans of the original show, its limited episode count and occasional lack of depth in storytelling prevent it from becoming a standout comedy. With a more refined approach and additional seasons to develop characters and narratives further, Reboot could have reached a wider audience and left a more lasting impression. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/27/23 Full Review Joan M I love this show. I think it's really funny on several levels. The cast is perfect -- it's very fun to watch. I really, really hope there are more seasons. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/21/23 Full Review Amelia A Brilliant comedy, heartfelt performances and a great cast, with insights into the world of sitcoms and television that are absolutely spot on. It really deserves a second season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/23 Full Review Eileen L This is a fresh, witty, intelligent show. My friends and I laugh out loud when we watch it. I highly recommend it and I am so disappointed that they are not making another season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Heather Hogan Autostraddle The show’s main move is flipping longtime TV tropes on their head to show how much the world has changed since the chaste and sterile television comedies of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Sep 28, 2022 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Despite the initial concerns of that Hulu exec, Reboot proves there’s still some life left in reboots. Rated: 3/4 Sep 24, 2022 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine Reboot channels viewers’ ambivalence toward the unrealistic shows that shaped us into a compelling blend of comedic sensibilities new and old. Sappy sitcoms age poorly, but kindness is a classic. Sep 23, 2022 Full Review Scarlett Harris Scarlett Harris (Medium) Obviously, give Judy Greer all the things… but maybe not this.
