Nick Hilton Independent (UK) When The Following Events are Based on a Pack of Lies goes off the rails, it does so out of a surplus of ambition, rather than a paucity. Which is the right way for things to be, even if the consequence -- a derailment -- is the same. Rated: 3/5 Sep 5, 2023 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) Billed as a comic drama, it leaves you wondering whether half the cast were even told it is supposed to be funny. Sep 1, 2023 Full Review Jasper Rees Daily Telegraph (UK) As a playful satire it revels in its own weirdness. Rated: 4/5 Aug 31, 2023 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) The cast is strong (Romola Garai stands out as a creative grotesque), I enjoyed the flurry of homages (most prominently, to Fatal Attraction), and the tar-black humour flows like a river. Rated: 3/5 Sep 3, 2023 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk Performances are terrific all round, with Staton particularly good as a woman whose self-esteem has been badly holed below the waterline, but manages to screw up the courage to take the fight back to her tormentor. Rated: 4/5 Aug 31, 2023 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming There’s a wondrously wicked personality running through the script, which gives a macabre playfulness to what’s shaping up to be an edge-of-your-seat cat-and-mouse thriller. Schylah S I found this series to be gripping, satirical, scary, horrifying. Excellent! Excellent plot, fast movement, attention to detail and good acting. Well done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review Peter F The first couple of episodes were fine. A good old fashioned English caper movie. But then the plot relies on the arrant stupidity of the two main women. We're supposed to believe that they won't hand back the Filofax when they could photo it in 2 minutes and then hand it back? Or believe that the author lady is soooo dumb that she doesn't see a thousand warning signals in the main villain? Or that Alice sits in the courtroom and says nothing? It's all so stupid. And we found ourselves yelling at the screen at Alice to "do something you dopey bint!" Really annoys me when the plot requires arrant stupidity to move forward. Even more puzzling is that these stupid women character written by women. I haven't seen the final ep yet, and I'm guessing Rob gets his comeuppance. He certainly deserves ot. Then again the two woman are so thick you never know…. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/21/23 Full Review Dave C It's interesting and has a level of intrigue, as we all like to see a story about a slimy protagonist doing what they do, and seeing how things unfold. Not the strongest of stories, and a lot of the acting feels very ‘Am-Dram', as well as having some regular eye rolling moments typical of a middle of the road BBC creation Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/23 Full Review A H This is one of the best shows I've ever seen - the writing was genuis and comical and I found it entertaining and easy to follow. 10/10 would reccomend Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review coco c LOVED IT!! Really accurate depiction of the consequences of a con on its victims and those around them. Great script and incredible performances from the lead roles. The last episode it fantastically pleasing and adds a very special hint of magic and hope that is needed very much in today's society. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review Iris V Relatable, funny and an incredible watch! Definitely a must-see!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
