"The Twilight Zone" was the brainchild of Emmy Award-winner Rod Serling, who served as host and wrote over 80 episodes of the original show's 150-plus episode run. It's a strange mix of horror, science-fiction, drama, comedy and superstition. Serling introduced each episode, and many of the black and white hours concluded with a surprise ending. Actors such as Burt Reynolds, Roddy McDowell and Robert Redford made appearances in some of the more well-known stories.

Critics Consensus

The highlights of the final The Twilight Zone season are the fine appearances from some veteran actors, although portions of these episodes are diminished by unfortunate clichés.

Matt Zoller Seitz New York Magazine/Vulture If it were possible to convert nightmares into electricity, we'd have all the power we could ever need thanks to The Twilight Zone. May 9, 2018 Full Review Emily St. James AV Club It sneaks in subversion by pretending to be exactly what it's subverting... Perhaps my favorite TV drama ever made. Rated: A- May 1, 2018 Full Review Zack Handlen AV Club For its final episode, The Twilight Zone gives us something it spent most of its time railing against: a happy ending of perfect, selfish bliss. Rated: C May 1, 2018 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... the show never sacrificed character to ideas. The series is so iconic and influential that its very title has become a cultural catch-phrase. These episodes remind us why. May 6, 2023 Full Review Chris Alexander Fangoria Serling almost single-handedly set the standard for sophisticated television during the medium's Golden Age and beyond. Jan 29, 2020 Full Review Sophy Ziss Nerdist At once poignant, eerie, and instantly memorable, the ahead-of-its-time (pun intended) program could teach viewers a lesson just as easily as it freaked them the heck out.
