What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Wheel of Time's revolutions can be a bit creaky as it tries to stand out from other fantasy series, but it succeeds admirably in making Robert Jordan's epic approachable for the uninitiated.

Scott Bryan BBC.com What frustrates me is from the outset of The Wheel of Time is that it does that thing where it spends five minutes quickly explaining a world you dont know with terminology you have never heard or really understand. Rated: Not a Must Watch Apr 6, 2022 Full Review Rebecca Long Slate While the adaptation isn't a carbon copy of the books, it works well as a complement. Nov 30, 2021 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald In the world of fantasy literature, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time novels were once the biggest thing since The Lord of the Rings... This handsome and expensive-looking new television adaptation looks like doing them justice. Rated: 4/5 Nov 30, 2021 Full Review Nicolas Soto But Why Tho? A Geek Community The Wheel of Time season 1 makes a lackluster debut. An inconsistency in the pacing throughout the entire season made everything feel rushed and predictable. Kevin K Utterly disappointing. Abhorrent “adaptation”, grossly rewriting key character’s core personalities, with excessive and unnecessary added storylines. Even the costume and makeup designs were left lacking. Film from the 80’s (Labyrinth) did better. Following the altered/choppy storyline is a gauntlet of its own. The supposed connection to the books is so far twisted, it is in name only. Obviously, there would be changes needed to adapt to film. Yet there are far too many structural changes that pull the film so distinctly far from the books. The film could be considered a complete re-write and stand alone story of its own. Yet, it doesn’t come close to the believable/authentic character personalities, their reactions and actions taken. It is far from any legit association to the books. As a stand alone film of its own, it has numerous deep flaws that reduce any depth within the experience. All the blatant bot media hype keeping it afloat is disgusting, more apt to turn any fan away from honest discussions. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review Krystian W It's The best fantasy series since The Lord of The Rings Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/07/25 Full Review Caleb W The design elements are really good, the acting is fine - some of it even really good, but that's all the good stuff i found here. They broke rule number 1 of adaptations: don't deviate from the source material without a good reason. Amazon decided to deviate from the source material for NO reason, and wound up forgetting to actually explain what's going on, develop the characters, or tell a good story. Here's the thing: the books aren't amazing - I get that. They could have improved upon them. They could have made the story more concise and clearer. Instead, they just shifted a few things for no reason, which caused loose ends. They unnecessarily left things out, things that were essential to development of the main characters. They added new plot lines that seemed to only be designed to take up time. And why kill off the same character twice in one season, and then bring them back twice? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Bronodine O I love this series so much, the 1st episode was boring lol, it took me 3 attempts to finish it, but after that I've fallen hard for this series I wish it never ends, but please give us some more lesbian content C'mon😭. And definitely more smut🫣 I feel like that's missing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/04/25 Full Review Vicente G Why do they even adapt a book if they just want to write fanfiction?
