BAFTA award-winning writer, actor, and producer Al Ashton was born in Birmingham, England. He began writing for the famed British soap opera "Emmerdale Farm" in 1972 and made his first appearance as an actor 10 years later as Mike Hathaway on the series "Angels." With several small roles under his belt, Ashton was cast in the 1988 comedy "A Fish Called Wanda" with Kevin Kline, John Cleese, and Jamie Lee Curtis. In 1994 Ashton won the BAFTA for Best Single Drama for the episode "Safe" on the series "Screenplay." Following his win, he began writing for and acting in the series "The Broker's Man." In 1996 he took on the recurring role of Pit Bull on "London's Burning," followed by a writing stint on the soap opera "EastEnders" from 2001 to 2006. Ashton then starred in the comedy "Sisterhood" directed by Richard Wellings-Thomas.
