Though writer/producer Caryn Lucas started her career working in game shows, she is more known for her work on sitcoms that prominently feature women. One of the first sitcoms Lucas worked on was the Patti LaBelle vehicle "Out All Night." Loosely related to and featuring a crossover character from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," the series is about a former singer who runs a nightclub--Vivica A. Fox plays LaBelle's daughter, a stylist who also works at the club. A few years after working as a story editor on "Out All Night," Lucas became one of the staff writers and later a producer for "The Nanny," starring Fran Drescher in a fish-out-of-water premise, a nanny from Queens working for a prim and proper uptown family. Lucas also wrote the script for the comedy feature film "Miss Congeniality," about a tomboyish FBI agent, played by Sandra Bullock, who has to go undercover at a beauty pageant. The film was received well by critics and even spawned a sequel, though Lucas was not involved directly with that film's script. In 2003, Lucas executive produced and wrote for the female-centered sitcom "What I Like About You," which featured ex-"Beverly Hills, 90210" actress Jennie Garth, as well as Nickelodeon breakout star Amanda Bynes. Bynes and Garth played sisters with clashing personalities, who struggle to learn how to live together in New York City.
