"With realistic acumen and artistic expertise, ADIEU LACAN portrays the struggles of a young woman, Seriema, who is trying to understand why her path to motherhood has reached an unbearable impasse. Following two miscarriages and the possible loss of her marriage, Seriema travels to Paris in 1972 to undergo psychoanalytic treatment with the maverick French analyst, Jacques Lacan. Her analysis is an attempt to help her to disentangle the enigma of her question: why has motherhood become a seeming impossibility? Inspired by the story of Betty Milan, a Brazilian psychoanalyst and writer, it follows closely her own actual psychoanalysis with Lacan. Based on her play "Goodbye, Doctor" and her novel "Lacan's Parrot," in which Milan recounts her analytic work, ADIEU LACAN offers an insightful and accurate account of an actual psychoanalytic cure." - Mavis Himes, Psychoanalyst and author of "The Power of Names."

Josh Bell Crooked Marquee French psychologist and philosopher Jacques Lacan is a staple of academia, and this dry, tedious drama about him often feels like a cinematic adaptation of a textbook. Audience Member If you are interested in psychoanalysis, you will find the situations and treatment very instructive. Psychoanalysis is a great way to know ourselves and find a way to "love and work". Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Great film to watch on the analysis of a Brazilian woman by Jacques Lacan. Usually, analysis in films is a bunch of cliches, necessarily, because it is so difficult to convey what happens there. This movie is an exception to that rule. Entertaining and dramatic and realistic without being didactic. Enjoy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member I thoroughly enjoyed watching this show. As a psychoanalyst, I think it was a gem of a film; in my opinion a true masterpiece that so gently, subtly and accurately portrays an analytic treatment, and more specifically a treatment that proceeds along the lines of a Lacanian cure. A wonderful film for analysts and non-analysts alike. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member The closest thing to having met Lacan himself. From now on, a film which can't be missed for whoever undergoes psychoanalytic training! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member First of all, I loved "Adieu Lacan" so much! I watched it twice and I knew very little about Lacan to start with. The direction, cinematography, and acting were stellar. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
