Audience Member Great follow up to again, one of my faves. Saw this at the Jewish Film Festival in San Francisco. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member A great doc. Both this and Best Boy are amazing in the way Wohl makes the viewer absolutely love his subjects. I was worried that there wouldn't be the family aspect, but did I ever get a kick out of Fran, it was like seeing Pearl all over again. A truly great film and very important in showing people who may not know about the mentally handicapped what it's really like and how Philly has lived a truly wonderful life. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member A descent follow up to best boy. It get's a little off track sometimes and is less documentary more shaped story, I feel. Ira did retain some of his film techinque that made BB great, but should have stuck to his guns. I don;t think it would have been possible to make a sequel that had the magnitude of BB, but it was good that Ira made this anyway, it's a nice movie overall and really powerful if you have seen Best Boy before. I think it was almost too light and positive. Best man is lacking the heartbreak that was couled with inspiration in Best Boy. I would have given anything to hear phily do that mournful chant from BB on this movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I watched the first of this two part documentary "Best Boy" about a year ago and still think of it often when I need a smile. I just viewed part II "Best Man" a year later. There is 20 yrs between the two films. Philly Wohl is the real life cousin of film-maker Ira Wohl who first filmed Philly and his parents 20 years earlier. Philly has a learning disability and was being cared for by his parents when we first meet him at 50 yrs old. Ira convinces his parents to let Philly for the first time in his life try a day school to learn to become more independent. By the end of the film Philly's father passes away and leaves his aging mother to place him in an independent living home. Shortly after she too passes but we see Philly thriving and enjoying his independence. 20 yrs later we revisit him to find him with many beloved friends around him, still in the same home and looked after devotingly by his sister who lives near by. Ira assists Philly in getting schooled for Bar Mitzpha. The ceremony is beautiful and joyous and you see that reflected on Philly and his family and friends around him. It brought tears to my eyes and once again I totally enjoyed this movie that teaches hope and love and what is most important in life. Philly knows that and shows us all just how to live. Wonderful movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
