At a time when the physical toll of punishing sports is being reevaluated in film, it's difficult for me to get much enjoyment out of the theatrical machismo and unsettling masochism on display here, no matter how "staged" it may be.

I love everything Mexican and this captures Mexico and captures the beloved sport better than anything i have ever seen. Characters are vivid i can see Hollywood making this into an epic wrestling film with superheroes Kuddos to the filmmakers, great work for such a fun and ambitious indie film!

A seedy trip through Mexico's most-hallowed halls of professional wrestling, focusing on second-generation luchador Shocker, Blue Demon, Jr., the tragic Hijo Del Perro Aguayo and lovable CMLL mascot Kemonito. More a magical, masked mystery tour than revealing doc, still, fans of Lucha Libre should enjoy the trip. Features clips with two grapplers who died tragically before the completition of filming. ***/5*

A joy to experience up close these Mexican athletes and understand this passion filled tradition. The documentary captures the lives in a very real way that allows the subjects to talk and share their stories and love for the sport.

As a big fan of Lucha Libre and the culture around it, I thoroughly enjoyed Lucha Mexico. I don't know if the movie would hold any appeal to people who aren't fans of Lucha, however, including pro wrestling fans who prefer the American style.
