A crack team of specialists were appointed by the government to investigate and control these "creature incursions," creating the Anomaly Research Center (ARC), which is now jointly owned by the government and by entrepreneurial scientist Philip Burton. The ruthless, manipulative Burton heads ARC's control center, often butting heads with government official James Lester, while zoologist Matt Anderson leads a capable crew in the field. They are under siege, however -- anomalies are becoming more numerous, unpredictable and dangerous than ever before, and the end of the world seems to be just around the corner. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Unbelievable characters aside, Primeval is old-fashioned, fantastical family fare with decent visuals and a sense of adventure.

Previous Nancy Banks-Smith Guardian I was tickled pink by Primeval. Feb 27, 2020 Full Review Ray Richmond Hollywood Reporter The result here is a good old-fashioned big-screen adventure flick writ small to fit the confines of your LCD. Oct 9, 2018 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety Using scientific mumbo-jumbo as an excuse to do Jurassic Park Lite, Primeval stirs up a strange but mostly entertaining brew. Feb 10, 2007 Full Review Will Wade Common Sense Media The science is overshadowed by the action, and on that front the show is fairly standard. 2/5 Feb 27, 2020 Full Review Arnold T. Blumberg IGN Movies The main problem with the show is the stupidity factor -- all those moments that make you say "that just doesn't make any sense" within the context of the show, and these moments are legion. 5/10 Oct 9, 2018 Full Review Rob Hunter Film School Rejects Primeval is a fun show filled with action and effects, emotion and intrigue, small blondes in smaller underwear... but as fantastic as all of that is, it's the characters that hooked me and made the series required viewing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Season 1 of primeval does a great job at setting up the characters and the stages for what is to come in future seasons through a very unique premise. So much so that I'm willing to forgive the questionable special effects.
