For decades, ex-government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington has been one of the globe's most wanted fugitives. But then he agreed to work with the FBI to catch his "blacklist" of mobsters, spies and international terrorists -- on the condition that he must work with profiler Elizabeth Keen. Red's true intentions -- choosing Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection -- are unclear. Does Liz have secrets of her own? Red promises to teach Liz to think like a criminal "to see the bigger picture," whether she wants to or not.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Propelled by the sheer force of James Spader's performance (and a pretty killer soundtrack), The Blacklist's fourth season ups the ante and then some.

Sibusiso M The show is really picking up and delivering. Great plot, impeccable storytelling and amazing performances from James spader as Raymond Reddington Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/24 Full Review Krzysztof P S1-9: Czasem wciąga, czasem nuży, czasem denerwuje, czasem zaskoczy. Równia pochyła. Każdy sezon coraz gorszy, mniej satysfakcjonujący i gubią sens Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Death S The first half of the season was decent, but the second half is where the series starts falling apart and it does so rapidly. Even putting aside the wokisms that start appearing out of nowhere. The heel turn by the task force and Reddington against Kaplan, Gabe and any form of law and order emerge. Raymond and Dembe opening fire on legit FBI agents in the finale. Keen going with Raymond over Kaplan even after the evil turn by Reddington. Resseler now a murderer. Just stop at the end of season 3. I wish I did. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Ellen J The ageism in this series is disgusting. While 3 men compete to be "father" to a 30-year-old woman (Red, Harold, and the so-called real father), the old woman who stood by loyally for decades is callously slaughtered and left to rot on a "nice piece of land," no casket provided. Totally ruined any positive feelings I had for the main character. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/22 Full Review Audience Member I have no idea why this show gets all the positive reviews here. It's kind of like Frozen 2, people really WANT to like it, because the first Frozen was so good, and thus they are blind to the fact that Frozen 2 has no depth whatsoever and the characters are suddenly all flat as pancakes. In The Blacklist it's James Spader huge performance that seems to blind the audience to the fact that everyone else on the show is merely built in to make Reddington look even better. There is no natural build up of relationships - in first episodes, Liz is greeted with scepticism from her new colleagues and boss, and then suddenly, she is on a first name basis with her boss's wife and everyone on the team loves noone more than Liz - all one happy family. When did that happen? How? This show is very flawed, which is especially disappointing because of the rave reviews. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This season was awesome, season 3 was better though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
