      Season 1 – The Brink

      2015 Comedy List
55% 40 Reviews Tomatometer 84% 250+ Ratings Audience Score The risk of World War III is real, thanks to a paranoid Pakistan army general who gains control of the country and its formidable nuclear arsenal. The global crisis sets into motion a risky plan that entangles three disparate, desperate Americans -- womanizing, often inebriated Secretary of State Walter Larson, lowly Foreign Service officer Alex Talbot, and supreme yet compromised Navy fighter pilot Zeke Tilson. Co-executive produced by Jerry Weintraub, Roberto Benabib and Jay Roach, the dark comedy series stars Tim Robbins ("Mystic River") as Larson, Jack Black ("School of Rock") as Talbot, and Pablo Schreiber ("The Wire") as Tilson, with additional cast members including Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Eric Ladin, Esai Morales and Carla Gugino. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Brink avoids disaster thanks to the game efforts of a talented cast, but they - and viewers - deserve political satire with a sharper bite.

Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe I found the Dr. Strangelove-like series, which was created by brothers Roberto and Kim Benabib, consistently entertaining, if not hysterical, and plotted with care, so that three distinct story lines dovetail nicely. Jun 23, 2015 Full Review Andy Greenwald Grantland It's a jumbled, cocky misfire of a series. Jun 23, 2015 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times [It] keeps generally on the right side of things by virtue of the excellence and exuberance of the performances, which add flesh where needed; by moving fast enough to keep ahead of your second thoughts; and by spreading the ridiculousness around. Jun 22, 2015 Full Review Randy Dankievitch TV Over Mind This is not Veep, nor is it a funny version of 24 - The Brink lies somewhere beneath the two, and yet, manages to capture neither, all while being an unfunny mess of sex and "cultural jokes". Mar 11, 2020 Full Review Ricardo De Querol El Pais (Spain) The good thing about The Brink is that you laugh out loud. The bad thing is that it is not so unlikely. [Full Review in Spanish] Apr 1, 2019 Full Review Alci Rengifo Entertainment Voice In a way the audience who should watch this documentary immediately are progressives, because it is a fascinating, unnerving portrait that goes right into the heart of the beast. Ashley C Pretty sure this show was cancelled because it was too accurate and the US Government forces them to shut it down. The two Navy Pilots are spot on as is everything that goes down on that ship. This show was so funny and so close to reality (assuming that's why it was cancelled). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Arun B Life is tragedy or comedy. This is one of the high level must watch comedy series, which liberates us from our tragic real life world affairs momentary. High five to the producer / production house and entire team. This wouldn't have been easy to pitch or produce. Try now with OTT platforms, might have better acceptance there than cable network. I wish current nightmare of a woke culture could grow up and mature into this genre. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/21 Full Review Audience Member funny, satirical and in a way shows the sad truth Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great casting, fantastic comedic timing, and actual progression with stakes and even death. No this is not a world changing comedy, but it's far above the average that's on TV right now. If you liked Better Off Ted then you'll love this show. The comedy isn't based in unrealistic slapstick or people being terrible at their jobs while playing passive aggressive baseball. The feel is somewhere between dark comedy and Aaron Sorkin pacing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Tried really hard to give this a fair shot but only lasted 12 minutes. Glad I bailed because this is extremely weak! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the smartest, funniest shows on the air. Great writing, directing, acting across the board.
