Audience Member A good early mafia movie that follows the tribulations of various mobsters in and around NJ in the 70's. It looks like it was produced by some mafia porn baron who was trying to make a genuine movie with his buddies. Has a good level of realism about it and doesn't try to glorify the life as many of its successors did. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Decent mob film has a young Italian attempting to make inroads as a collector for his mafia acquaintences. Kind of liked the end where a body is dumped in a ditch on a side road. Notable for featuring Joe Pesci in an early support role and delivering so many hits you lose count by the end. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Mob film in the aftermath of THE GODFATHER has a enforcer collecting outstanding debts. Quite violent as the action escalates to a series of retaliatory strikes. Notable for an early Joe Pesci supporting role, who stands out to a degree. Showing a lack of attention to detail, United VHS released this as 'Family Enforcer' although title on the film credits is 'Death Collector'. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Though Joe Pesci did NOT deserve to be on the cover, this film turned out to be one of the funniest, suspenseful & action packed Mafia movies ever made. Joseph Cortese plays an angry, violent debt collector, & he does a damn fine job at it. This film is, as quoted from the DVD I own, "An Obscure Gem!" & it WELL deserves, "Four Stars!" Out Of Five Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite having delightful early roles for mobster stock players Frank Vincent and Joe Pesci, who were already typecast at the very beginnings of their respective identical careers, the main character in "Death Collector" is a lunkheaded Joe Cortese, an ostensible non-actor with the charisma of a car wash attendant. His is the archetypal character arc of Scarface and Little Caesar, only he is much more of an irredeemable dick than any of his counterparts. Pesci and Vincent stay on the sidelines, say very little, and are dispatched with lightning speed. There is little here to recommend save for some inspired fight choreography and the obligatory nihilistic ending. Hey guys, you wouldn't believe it, but I learned something today: crime doesn't pay! "Death Collector" made me a better person. My life's ambition used to be to shake down fools for cash and hang out in greasy-spoon Italian restaurants, but now I think I'll become a productive member of society instead. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member My Copy of this DVD was listed on box as Family Enforcer, Film showed title Death Collector. My copy came from the 10 Movie Crime Collection from BCI, the film quality was pretty good but could have been better. A good collection of stars in this B-Movie made for drive inn, Joe Cortese, Bobby Alto, Frank Vincent and Joe Pesci. Movie was made in 1976 . Jerry Bolanti played by Joseph Cortese is a collector for the mob, from streetwise punk to collector, runs into bands of trouble everything from being shot to having a Black Hitman look for him. Believe this is Joe Pesci first move. It was enjoyable, not a waste. Have to give it 3 1/2 stars, a good package buy or a B-Movie rental. Pablo Villaça Cinema em Cena Tenso e bem realizado (e que marcou a estria de Pesci no Cinema), esta semente de Os Bons Companheiros merece ser resgatada do limbo no qual se encontra. Rated: 4/5 Sep 22, 2005 Full Review Read all reviews
