Alison Herman The Ringer High Maintenance allowed itself to explore a more universal truth about living through interesting times, a mantle taken up by more series since. Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Emily St. James Vox In the keen (if slightly bloodshot) eyes of High Maintenance, every single person onscreen -- from the excitable tourist parents to the countless lonely people shuffling around their apartments -- is worthy of having their story told. Mar 26, 2018 Full Review Judy Berman Pitchfork The show's emotional intelligence goes hand in hand with its radical inclusiveness. Mar 22, 2018 Full Review Nico Gendron Birth.Movies.Death. This deeper dive into humanity makes season two of High Maintenance a must-see. We were hooked by the weed, but are sticking around for the show's offbeat characters that are delicate in their strength. Dec 15, 2018 Full Review Kevin Fitzpatrick ScreenCrush It's not what you would call appointment viewing, but - like The Guy's visits - a perfect chance to relax and let your mind drift. May 29, 2018 Full Review Jac Kern Cincinnati CityBeat The imaginative ways this series explores the human experience are on full display here. It's silly, emotional and thought-provoking all at once. Lester D This TV series is excellent. I adore how each episode develops in a carefree and haphazard manner. Watching anything completely new and invigorating is impossible. excellently performed and written. and just got ready for a big third season! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review Gareth v A fantastic second season. Continues telling quirky stories about the people of New York with empathy and humour. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Charming, sweet, funny Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member half of the episodes are very satisfying, the other half are like entourage but for lesbians Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Heavily conflicted between a 4* and 4.5* this time around. A strong showing this season. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member High Maintenance's transition from a web-series to a legit TV show certainly went seamlessly, but this follow-up season is much more paramount, and officially puts it as TV's best anthology series. Filmed in the months after the last Presidential election, this year tried to encapsulate the melancholy that swamped New York in light of the results, and it does this in a way that's bittersweet and universal. Starting with a brilliant premiere that captures a stigma without name-dropping, High Maintenance continued to excel over the course of these 10 episodes. The scripts were astoundingly insightful, capturing areas of New York you might not have even known existed, while also being a joy to watch, thanks to its playful tone, and oft-kilter brand of humor. The show just feels palpable, weird, and funny all at once, and props to the casting department for mostly sticking with (very talented) no-names, as it gives this show such a human face to it. There are good shows, and there are great shows, but only a handful are best described in the same way as High Maintenance: Perfection. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
