This surreal drama follows a man with two identities: Henry Spivey, a mild-mannered family man who works as an efficiency expert, and Edward Albright, a covert operative who speaks 13 languages and is trained to kill with his teeth. Each identity is unaware of the other, until the carefully constructed psychological wall between the two is breeched, thrusting both Henry and Edward into situations with which they are ill-equipped to cope. Henry's family and therapist are unaware of his secret double life.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

My Own Worst Enemy sells a potentially ludicrous premise with stylistic verve and a charismatic dual performance by Christian Slater.

Kim Newman Empire Magazine It's cheerfully absurd, with funny turns from Mädchen Amick and Saffron Burrows as the respective love interests, plus two-for-the-price-of-one work from Slater. Rated: 3/5 Dec 3, 2018 Full Review Scott Tobias AV Club My Own Worst Enemy isn't a comedy and that may be its biggest problem. Played straight, it's a slick, been-there-done-that spy show built around a gimmick that frustrates and confuses more than it entertains. Rated: C+ Dec 3, 2018 Full Review Alan Sepinwall Newark Star-Ledger There are plenty of dull passages where it's impossible not to ask who these people are, why they do what they do, and how much contempt NBC must have for its own audience's intelligence. Dec 3, 2018 Full Review Jake Ten Pas Oregonian My Own Worst Enemy might not be the most original show ever, but in delivering slick thrills, engaging dialogue and solid acting, it might keep at least half of your brain occupied for an hour each Monday night. Dec 3, 2018 Full Review Kari Croop Common Sense Media The premise is intriguing, the writing is smart and shrewdly funny, and the characters are well-developed and multidimensional. Rated: 4/5 Dec 3, 2018 Full Review Bruce Simmons Screen Rant They've pulled off an interesting concept and didn't go overboard, keeping it believable enough to not be tripped up with any writing inconsistencies.
