Laced with irony and dark situational humor, the show approaches the subject of death through the eyes of the Fisher family, who owns and operates a funeral home in Los Angeles. Peter Krause stars as Nate, who reluctantly becomes a partner in the funeral home after his father's death.

Critics Consensus

Six Feet Under offers a fitting end for the Fishers by concluding the way it began: an unexpectedly beautiful rumination on life, death and grief.

Linda Stasi New York Post Let me say right up front that somehow Alan Ball, the creator/writer found a way to push the envelope so far that we were all left speechless. And breathless. Rated: 4/4 Mar 30, 2020 Full Review Andrew Ryan Globe and Mail Six Feet Under is back for another season of harsh life lessons and deliciously dark humour. It has been far too long. Mar 30, 2020 Full Review John Doyle Globe and Mail Immensely smart and elegiac. It is a fitting conclusion to what has been a magnificent fifth season for the drama. Mar 30, 2020 Full Review Brandon Judell PopcornQ Besides its weekly sardonic look at mortality, the shows portrayal of homosexuality and lesbianism has been unflinching. Mar 2, 2022 Full Review Alan Pergament Buffalo News After dedicating four seasons to watching them lose loved ones, discover painful things about themselves and desperately try to change their self-destructive ways, it practically seems mandatory to discover how their journey ends. Rated: 3/4 Mar 30, 2020 Full Review Seth Freilich Pajiba I'd put the last 10 minutes of that finale up against any series finale - it was simply the perfect way to end the show, and I'm so glad "Six Feet Under" went out on a high note. Cem Y This comment is not only for this season, but for the whole series. I was hearing very good comments about this series and it has become a 'must' to see it. Now that I watched it I feel that those comments were exaggerating this series. Yes, it covers a very important topic and pushes you to think about death. However, there is literally no character in the movie who lives a believable life. Every character is a drama queen and there is always some sort of a conflict. Resolutions of these conflicts are not defendable in most cases. Sexuality is excessive and the series does not allow you to feel good about some character. You just watch a couple of adults who have teenager mentalities and nobody grows up. Same mistakes are repeated and the series goes on. A topic as deep as "death" should had some sort of weight requiring a more serious product. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/23 Full Review Mark s I watched this show when it was originally aired and considered it one of the best shows ever, right up there with The Sopranos and Breaking Bad. Easy five star rating! Now, twenty years later, watching it again, I see it differently. It is first and foremost a show about the sex lives of all of its main characters, with continual and non-stop sex scenes, real and imaginary. The Funeral parlor angle is only window dressing to add flavor and is clearly a side issue. I can see the creators of this show hanging out at a bar and trying to figure out how to create a show that'll speak to the highly sought-after 25 to 44 demographic group. Non-stop sex and profanity is a good place to start! ps I'm pro-non stop sex and profanity, but there has to be more to keep my interest. Anyway, 3 1/2 stars, mostly because of my memories. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review Drue I The best series finally of all shows! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/03/23 Full Review Jessica W Loved this show. Great story telling with one of the most satisfactory endings of all time. HBO and the production team did a great job of knowing when to wrap a series so that you could love the story and the characters without dragging the story too long that you could no longer appreciate them. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Ewa K MUST SEE, and the music from Sia i just heart breaking and maching to the BEST END EVER!
