Jeff M Sadly, this tepid drama is nowhere near as captivating as its title and plot description would suggest. Imagine MONSTER-IN-LAW played straight, and you have an idea what's in store here. Neither psychological thriller nor over-the-top camp, it's basically a passion-less bore. I mean, come on, the most vicious thing mommy does is buy her son's intended a dog. Yep, this is edge of your seat entertainment! It doesn't help matters that Matthews is an absolute bore - both as son and as lover. A more recent film with a similar theme, 1998's HUSH, is pretty stinky, too, but at least you can enjoy Jessica Lange chewing the scenery for days. No sure pleasure can be found here.
