Audience Member Like I said, animation is an art form, and in a few countries in the world, there are some excellent animation. In this beautifully animated film, the beautiful princess Zelia is betrothed to the cruel sheik Jafar (another one beside Disney's Jafar huh?), and her minstrel/friend Armin uses Aladdin's lamp to rescue her. Julie Andrews (and in her film debut too), supplies the voice of Zelia in the film; The film was originally made in Italy in 1949 and later released in an English-language version around 1967 (my very first glimpse of Italian animation was the TV series Winx Club). The influence of Disney's Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs is clearly evident, in the general look, the plot and the characters, including the musical heroine (Princess Zelia) and three goofy midget-ministers (Tonko,Zirko and ZiZibe), who mimic the Disney dwarfs flawlessly; and juts Snwo White, but the snakes in the scene where they dance look like something out of a 1930s Silly Symphony cartoon. As I said I am starting to love fantasy movies (animated or live action) set in Arabia; My favorite characters from the film are Calina, Armins little magpie (she looks like a bird-version of Minnie Mouse...it's the bow), and I love the princess herself; You know, not many discuss the Non-Disney Princesses, and I have added Zelia to the list I had made of The Non-Disney Princesses : · Glory from Gulliver's Travels, · Odette from The Swan Princess, · Thumbelina, · YumYum from The Thief and The Cobbler, · Anastasia, and · Kayely from Quest for Camelot Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Cute movie. A 14 year old Julie Andrews plays the princess. Sweet. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
