Audience Member Sorta realistic despite flaws. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member A realistic look at modern Chinese women condition. This disturbing tale of a family murder is set in HK like most of Ann Hui movies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I Like both leading actor and actress. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review mark c A deeply gut-wrenching and delicate depiction of an unfortunate true life domestic violence incident in Hong Kong 2004. Simon Yam's performance carried the movie while Zhang Jingchu was able to hide her exquisite beauty. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good performance by Yam again. Good story Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Ann Hui's return to the Tin Shui Wai towers is a harrowing watch, and even doubly so, since the director not only showers the viewer with naturalistic scenes of domestic violence, but also makes the tragic end that her main character faces painfully clear from scratch. With only the gorgeous cinematography of Charlie Lam as a reminder of Hui's previous feelgood Tin Shui Wai-outing The Way We Are, Night And Fog is an openly political film and a polemic against a system that fails to meet the demands of those in need. Hui's agenda is somewhat weakened by the apparent lack of psychological approach to the problems presented and by some of the more melodramatic effects included in the narrative, but her social analysis with it's in-depth description of the conditions that migrant workers and poor families in rural areas of China today faces, remain perfectly valid. Featuring two remarkable leads in Zhang Jingchu and Simon Yam. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
